Wade Sexton, MD, is the chief medical officer and vice president of medical affairs at Moffitt Cancer Center. Dr. Sexton joined Moffitt in 2004 and is a senior member in the Genitourinary Oncology Program. Throughout his career, Sexton has held various leadership positions including past-president of Moffitt Medical Staff and past-president of the Florida Urologic Society. Sexton’s academic and clinical practice is focused on bladder, kidney, and advanced testicular malignancies. As a nationally recognized oncologist and surgeon, Sexton was honored as the MD Anderson Distinguished Urologic Oncology Alumnus in 2013. In 2019, he was recognized with the Charles C. Williams, Jr. Physician of the Year award at Moffitt, and in 2024, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO). He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Furman University. He earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine and completed general surgery and urology residency training at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Sexton served in the U.S. Air Force and during his service, completed a fellowship in urologic oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Additionally, he was the director of Moffitt’s SUO accredited fellowship program from 2008-2023 and served on the board of directors for the SUO organization. He was a long-term member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s guideline panel for bladder cancers and an assistant editor for The Journal of Urology. He served on the American Board of Urology (ABU) as a writing member of the examination committee and continues to serve as an oral examiner for ABU certification.
