DUHS Perioperative Services is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Lipkin, MD, MBA, as the new Chief of Ambulatory Surgery DUHS, effective July 1, 2024.
In this role, Dr. Lipkin is the operational physician co-leader (with Chief of Ambulatory Anesthesiology) with regards to operative care delivery in the ambulatory setting. In partnership with the Ambulatory ANCO and VP DUHS Perioperative Services, the DUHS Chief of Ambulatory Surgery and the Chief of Ambulatory Anesthesiology oversee the day-to-day operational management of ambulatory ORs and perioperative spaces, navigating entity-specific challenges in patient access, logistical support, and institutional bed flow. They adjudicate leveling decisions, approve the scheduling practices for nursing and anesthesia support, mitigate staffing concerns, and be the point people for conflict resolution on their respective surgical platforms.
Michael Lipkin, MD, Cary N. Robertson Associate Professor of Surgery, has served in the roles of Vice Chair of Clinical Operations for the Department of Surgery 2020-2023, PDC/DHIP Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) 2018-2023, and Patient Revenue Management Organization ACMO 2023-present. The role of Chief of Ambulatory Surgery brings together his expertise in the ambulatory and surgical spaces such as leading access and operations in the ambulatory platforms and clinics and implementation of value-based care strategies such as bundles and direct to payer centers of excellence. These areas of expertise will be critical for the ambulatory surgical platforms’ successful navigation of the everchanging healthcare landscape.
