Duke Urology at American Urological Association (AUA) Advocacy Summit 2025

By Thomas Schroeder, MD

We had the great opportunity to participate in the American Urological Association (AUA) Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C., on March 4, 2025.

In addition to residents from Wake Forest University, faculty from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and our own Dr. Preminger, we discussed important legislation with the offices of our North Carolina Senators Thom Tillis and Ted Budd and Congresswoman Valerie Foushee.

Our focuses this year were on addressing the urologic workforce shortage and preventing burnout, identifying key drugs that are vulnerable to supply chain disruption, regulating prior authorization requirements to streamline healthcare delivery, and reforming Medicare payment structures to account for inflation.

It was an excellent experience that would not have been possible without the support and sponsorship of the Southeastern Section of the AUA and the Duke Department of Urology.

For those more interested in the goals and missions of our AUA advocacy this year, details are available at: https://www.auanet.org/advocacy
