Physician representatives from Duke Urology joined a recent roundtable with Congressman Greg Murphy, MD, an actively practicing urologist in Greenville, NC.
Many topics were discussed including a projected national physician shortage, training of future physicians in academic centers, rural outreach, pre-authorizations, and Hurricane Helene's recent disaster and relief efforts in Western North Carolina.
Dr. Murphy was interested in learning more about image-targeted focal therapy of prostate cancer. Director of Duke’s Focal Therapy Program, Thomas Polascik MD, discussed Duke’s Focal Therapy program as well as the recent 15th International Symposium on Focal Therapy and Imaging of Prostate and Kidney Cancer in Washington, DC. Duke faculty member Michael Rothberg, MD, summarized the use of irreversible electroporation to eliminate focal prostate cancer in a minimally invasive fashion.
